Swing Coaching Tips
In order to be the best hitter that you can be, it is necessary to improve your strength, determination, coordination, confidence, vision, rhythm, style, body control and quick hands. These skills don’t always come easily, but the following tips from the pros can help on the road to the ultimate swing:
- Always stay inside of the ball so you can hit to all fields.
- Avoid swinging at bad pitches; try to learn what pitches in the “strike zone” look like.
- Choose a bat you can handle.
- During practice, have someone watch you who can critique your swing mechanics.
- Hold your bat at a 45-degree angle to avoid unnecessary swing movement.
- Keep your back elbow close to your body.
- Learn what your hitting strengths are and focus on those. Over time, you will learn what pitches are within your strength zone, where you can count on a hard and solid contact.
- Move your hands back a little when the pitcher is preparing to throw the ball, and only go for it if you like the pitch.
- Only take short steps and strides to avoid losing balance.
- Try to position yourself with front shoulders and chin tucked in, hands back, head and eyes still and aimed at the pitcher, and stay on the balls of your feet.
- Spread your feet slightly wider than your shoulders. This will also help you keep your balance.
- Use a slightly downward swing to keep on top of the ball and avoid upper cutting.

“We purchased the Batter’s Edge for our son, so he could improve his swing for Little League games. He has never felt so confident about his performance, and we couldn’t be more proud.”

“Our daughter was ready to quit her softball league before we purchased the Batter’s Edge for her to practice with. She just uses it a few times a week and her swing has improved dramatically. Now she looks forward to softball practice, and I don’t think she’ll be quitting any time soon.”
- Bill and Bonnie C., Pittsburg, PA

“I joined a recreational baseball league last spring and, while I had fun, I was definitely one of the weaker players on the team. I got the Batter’s Edge in the hopes of improving my swing, and this season I feel like I am at the top of my game.”
